Which Witch Is Wiccan

 

          Throughout the history of film the topic of witchcraft is in no way lacking representation. As one of the most far reaching forms of media, the way in which the pagan religion of Wicca has been portrayed on television and in movies has sculpted the audiences view on what it means to be Wiccan. In the movie Hocus Pocus, witches are shown as evil beings that suck the souls from children in the pursuit of staying young and beautiful forever. In the movie Wizard of Oz, witches are depicted as both good and bad, able to throw fire and fly around on broomsticks and bubbles. Though these movies are created as a form of entertainment, the way in which it has influenced peoples understanding of witchcraft or Wicca, is far from the truth.

          That being said, this website will be used as a forum to distinguish truth from myth when it comes to pop culture's portrayal of the Wiccan religion. Using the show Charmed as a reference point, I hope to give some incite into what is considered an accurate illustration of Wicca, and what is just pure fluff.
